Fall Book Drive starts today!

Last semester, the Research Center held a “Rebuild Haiti” Book Drive. I wanted to give you an update on our collective efforts from Better World Books.

According to our Better World Books representative, the warehouse received about 223 books. 52 of the 83 “sellable” books have been sold. The books that were not added to the online store were donated to a local reading room, these were 41 children books, and 4 of these 41 books were given to Books for Africa. It appears that children books cannot usually be sold.

All of the proceeds will go to Plan USA. You can visit http://www.planusa.org/content1317720 to see a video and the recovery stats. Our book drive helped to fund this.

The Research Center will hold another book drive to continue our efforts and all proceeds will go to Plan USA. You can start bringing in your gently used books starting today,  Wednesday, October 20, 2010. The book drive will go on until Wednesday, December 15, 2010. The donation drop box is located in front of the Research Center. Please RSVP on our Facebook event page to pledge your support, and spread the word!

"Rebuild Haiti" Book Drive

With the help of Better World Books, the Research Center will hold a “Rebuild Haiti” book drive from Tuesday, April 6th, 2010 through Tuesday, May 18th, 2010, to raise funds for Haiti’s education restoration effort. Funds raised through our book drive will go to the non-profit literacy partner, Plan USA, and will be applied exclusively to education in Haiti.
According to the Better World Books website, “Plan USA has been working in Haiti since 1973. They were recently selected by the Haitian government to implement the country’s education restoration effort alongside the Ministry of Education, UN agencies, local and international NGO partners.” You can learn more about Plan USA at www.planusa.org.
The donation drop box is located in front of the Research Center. There are no restrictions on the type, subject matter, or number of books that you donate, so please give!
